Equipment failure can lead to costly production downtime and product defects.
Pacific Coast Engineering is available to perform on-call emergency repairs at your facility.
BATTERY RESISTANCE TEST SYSTEM
The battery resistance test system is used by a California-based manufacturer of electric vehicle lithium-ion batteries. The tester applies a brief, high-current load to a battery to precisely measure its' internal resistance. The fixture includes an interface to the manufacturer's Battery Management System (BMS). The software records the measured battery parameters, and the data provided by the BMS, in a production log file.

BRUSHLESS MOTOR CONTROLLER FOR AERONAUTICAL APPLICATIONS
The brushless motor controller is based on an Atmel Atmega8 microcontroller and is designed for high power density, efficiency and compatibility with industry standard control protocols and drive motor parameters.

SUPERCRITICAL FLUID EXTRACTOR
The supercritical fluid extractor was designed and built for the extraction of essential oils from organic matter. The design uses Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in its supercritical state to deliver an inherently safe, food-grade extract, and features closed-loop control of extraction temperature, and pressure, to extract specific targeted compounds.

WIRELESS PUMP CONTROL SYSTEM
This product was built to remotely control a 100HP agricultural irrigation pump from a storage tank location approximately two miles away with severe line of sight (LOS) limitations. The system consists of three sets of solar-powered communication modules operating via radio frequency and an integrated power relay to control pump operation.

WIRELESS PRESSURE SENSOR SYSTEM
This product was developed for an agricultural automation client. The sensor measures the pressure of irrigation water in portable, aluminum irrigation systems and transmits the data to a receiver up to twelve (12) miles away. The receiver displays the pressure value, allowing the grower to correctly adjust the VFD speed and achieve the desired pressure value in a specific irrigation block. The receiver also generates a signal compatible with most VFDs for true closed-loop operation.

MOTOR-OPERATED VALVE CONTROLLER
This product performs leak detection and tank shutoff system for a large ranch in northern San Luis Obispo County. The controller receives a low-level signal from a wireless telemetry unit and controls two large, motor-operated water shut-off valves; it returns a signal indicating the valve states.

DECORATIVE FOUNTAIN SPRINKLER HEADS
These product were developed to achieve specific dispersion patterns in decorative fountain applications. A variety of prototypes was machined and delivered to the customer. The designs selected for mass production were then drawn using AutoCAD, with plastic injection molds machined based on the drawings.

AGRICULTURAL DEMONSTRATION UNIT
This product showcases an agricultural automation system, consisting of a wireless telemetry unit, pump control circuit, pump, solenoid valves and soil moisture sensor. The structure is fabricated using 8020 aluminum extrusion for a clean look, minimal assembly time and easy customization. The unit was completed in 2015 and shown during the Sustainable Ag Expo at the Madonna Expo Center in San Luis Obispo.

AGRICULTURAL AUTOMATION SITE PLANS
These site plans were created to completely document the existing infrastructure and proposed control system for several agricultural automation projects. The plans shows the routing of potable water, AC power as well as wired, and wireless controls. These documents are then used to create detailed bill of materials (BOM), field installation instruction, and the automation algorithms associated with the projects.

BATTERY RESISTANCE TESTER
The battery resistance tester was requested by a manufacturer of lithium-ion traction batteries for electric vehicles. The tester applies a brief, high-current load to a battery to precisely measure it's internal resistance. The fixture includes an interface to the manufacturer's Battery Management System (BMS) and records the measure battery parameters, and the data provided by the BMS, in a production log file.
Two units were completed and delivered in 2014 and have been in continuous operations since.
